Search engine optimisation, continued . . .

4. Web site content
Pump up your site with interesting site content in text form. You can use CSS (cascading style sheets) to make it more visually pleasing. Avoid too much graphics and flash. . Not everyone has a broadband connection and the latest computer of browser. Stick to as much text as you can because the spiders and bots that are used by search engines to crawl and index your site content feed on text. A flash and graphics only site is like a blank page to spiders and bots. It has nothing to index and will not show up on search results.

5. Do not automate the process
There are software vendors out there who claim to direct traffic to your site automatically. The problem with this is that you may end up penalised and thrown out by the search engines because they do not like spamming and link farms. Link campaign is a delicate process that takes months and years. There is no quick fix solution.

6. Contacting a website administrator
Send a personal message or phone a site administrator to request for a link. Do not use the dear admin kind of emails, try to address people by name. People appreciate a bit of human effort.

7. Use of blogs and newsletters and social networking sites
This is the latest craze in the internet revolution. Specialized engines exist now to crawl blogs and posts on networking sites and so this can bring you traffic big time. Participation in discussion forums can be helpful too.

8. Paying for links
It can certainly be worthwhile once in a while to pay for a link from a popular site. If the link is from a rank 8 or 9 site and they are not willing to listen to your request, perhaps some money may change their minds.

9. Link to pages with low page rank
The Google ranking algorithm is based on a logarithmic scale. A site with a rank close to zero does not mean that it has no inbound links. Look at it from another perspective, if you were just starting out then you will never get anyone linking to you if established sites wanted high ranking sites only. Our time is the information age and thinks change so fast. The small guy you are refusing links from may be your envy tomorrow with a million hits per day. Think about that !.

10. Avoid outbound link only policy
Poorly informed site administrators insist on having only links to their site and no links going out. This is a recipe for disaster because the web is meant to facilitate exchange of information. No site will be willing to connect with you if you are selfish and this means you are missing out on valuable traffic which you could have gained. Remember you achieve more through teamwork.

- increased traffic to your site.
- increased Google page rank.
- increased Alexa ranking.
- search engine optimisation.
- indexing of your site if its new. This means that your site will become visible when people search the internet.
