Southern Africa Social Club (Sasca)



This was the first meeting to discuss formation of a Social Club to bring together foreigners living overseas who are originally from Southern Africa. It was agreed to initially target people living in Ireland and as the group gained its feet then membership and possibly branches can be formed in UK and other countries.

1. Objectives of the social club

  • Information
    Members advising each other regarding day to day issues which affect them or which they consider can be helpful to other fellow Africans living abroad.
  • Help
    Charitable and humanitarian help to fellow members in need
    In times of bereavement
    Destitution
    Social difficulties
  • Hosting Social Events
    Plan, organise, and implement social, cultural, events and celebrations
    Weddings, Family fun gatherings, bring and share braais
    Entertainment, bands, sporting events

2. Marketing awareness

By Word of mouth advertising, Dinners and Emails. It was suggested to seek the support of people who work with or are known to many people to help in informing about the group. Names suggested included Jethro, Maphosa, Nobuhle, Mary, Tendai, Farai, Gerald, Elson, Mai Mati.

3. Registration and Legal matters

A charity, a friendly association, or a profit making organisation were the 3 types considered. It seemed likely that the friendly association type will be adopted but this will be agreed in the next meeting.

4. Responsibilities

  1. Mbonisi Ncube and Punch John – to make a draft constitution and get ideas from similar clubs.
  2. Farai Jeyacheya – To gather and summarise information on pros and cons of different types of organisations to enable members to decide on what type to register in the next meeting.
  3. Emmanuel Mwadiwa – To prepare minutes and organise the venue for the next meeting
  4. Mbuso Kulube – To upload the minutes online and search for available website names. Following domains were available on the morming of 13 October 2008:
